"He instinctively can find the shining greatness of our American culture and does a good job of highlighting it (although he also does have those rare lapses when he writes about hockey, but that is something caused by impurities in the Eastern waters or something)." Erik Keilholtz

St. Philomena long has been turned to as a patron saint of the sick and disabled, and of desperate and seemingly lost causes.
A worker of miracles, honored by popes, and promoted especially by St. John Vianney, she is celebrated for her intercessory power.
"Nothing is denied to Saint Philomena," it is said. Crutches line the wall of the chapel dedicated to her at Ars.
It's not known what Philomena looked like – indeed, there is question as to whether she actually existed -- but she's quite pretty in this artist's depiction.
The ornate Sanctuary of St. Philomena outside Naples marks its bicentennial this year, and a petition is being circulated to restore her feast to the liturgical calendar.
