This past Saturday the tee-ball and Little League season officially opened with the annual procession through town. Our youngest proudly wears No. 6 for the A's.

An essayist for the old Buffalo Head Society wrote a few years back on "The Evocative Power of Mere Cloth Numerals."

Daniel Matsui at the Lion & the Cardinal posts some images of a Japanese-American semi-pro ball team in Salt Lake City circa 1915.

His great-grandfather, Jiro Morikuni, was the shortstop. Daniel asks if any baseball historians out there can identify the team.

A visitor to a baseball-history message board posted an old team picture of a St Louis Browns minor-league club, with this request:

My grandmother rented rooms to baseball players in Newark, Ohio around 1946. I have this photo and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me more about it since my knowledge of baseball is nil to none.

The photo stirred memories for several readers. One grew up in Newark, Ohio, and recalled games watched from the loft of his grandmother's barn overlooking the ballfield.

Another spotted his uncle in the picture. Two others spotted their own fathers.
